Have you received a notice from the IRS recently?

It is an unsettling feeling to receive a notice form the IRS by mail, but it is very important that you deal with the issue right away. This will not go away on its own so in your best interest we are available to help you with your response in handling this matter.

Handling the matter on your own may seem like your only option. Once you recognize all of the time that you will spend worrying, the sleepless nights, or the time you may need to take off from work to take care of this, you need to know you have another choice. With our assistance, we will help you resolve this matter efficiently and affordably.

Audits may be conducted by mail or an in-person interview where your tax records

will be reviewed by an IRS auditor. The IRS will tell you what records are needed

and you should know an audit does not always result in changes being made.

As an Enrolled Agent, Jeffery A. Ames will represent you in this matter with the IRS. In most cases, you won't even need to talk to the IRS as we can handle all the communication and paperwork for you.We will be your advocate and mediate with the IRS so you know you and your financial interests are being represented fairly.

“I am so thankful for Jeffery’s help on a large tax issue we had with the IRS. We had a very complex and difficult issue. We needed help solving what had been done and not been done. It was a hard life lesson to face, but Jeffery took us through the steps we needed to take to clear it up. Thank you Jeffery for all the help.”

- Michelle, Des Moines business owner

WHAT IS AN IRS AUDIT?

An IRS audit is a review or examination of an organization's or individual's accounts and financial information to make sure everything is being reported correctly (according to tax law) and to verify the amount of tax reported is accurate.

KNOW YOUR RIGHTS AS A TAXPAYER

  • A right to know why the IRS is asking for information and how they will use it
  • A right to privacy and confidentiality about tax matters
  • A right to representation by oneself or an authorized representative (like an Enrolled Agent)
  • A right to appeal disagreements, within the IRS and before the courts

THE APPEALS PROCESS

The IRS understands some taxpayers may not be happy with the findings of its auditors and has created a separate branch called the Office of Appeals. Appeal officers have more authority and flexibility in deciding cases than auditors.Their job is to review finished examination reports and provide an impartial platform for taxpayers to plead their case. In fact, they are judged by how often they are able to reach a successful compromise with taxpayers so it's not in their best interest to simply agree with the auditor's findings.

OFFER IN COMPROMISE

The Offer in Compromise program allows taxpayers to settle their taxes for less (and some cases, much less) that what the government claims you owe.As a tax professional for over 30 years, and Enrolled Agent since 1993, Jeffery A. Ames has the experience with this option and will advise you if this is the proper solution to resolve your tax problems.
